I keep finding myself listening to Robert Kiyosaki. Part of me loves him, part of me hates him. His mantra “the rich buy assets, the middle class by liabilities they think are assets and the poor buy liabilities” keeps getting stuck in my head every time I think about buying stock.

Here he is in a particularly painful interview with a Romanian vlogger George Caliveria. Here Kiyosaki’s ego is on full display. Both he and the interviewer show a high degree of patience, despite their obvious mutual discomfort with the conversation. So, if you want a lesson in how finance gurus should not behave, give it a watch.

Incidentally, if you’re interested in more about Kiyosaki and his career, here are some fun articles.

And as a bonus, check out my friend Kelan’s article on whether Kiyosaki is a fraud.  Kelan concludes there isn’t enough information, but you can reach your own decision.

MANAGE YOUR MONEY TOGETHER

Here are some simple guidelines for DINKS to build wealth:

1) Collaborate: Meet regularly to talk about money, set goals together, track and monitor them.

2) Understand and respect your partner. Take time to understand your partners values about money.

3) Watch the numbers. Get a budget, monitor your spending and track your net worth.

4) Max your retirement. Maximize contributions to your tax deferred retirement accounts.

5) Invest in stock. Stocks perform better than bonds or cash.

6) Avoid high interest debt. Credit cards and title loans are financial cancer.

7) Diversify. Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
