The guy who writes/draws xkcd wrote the check in response to the Verizon Math debacle.

What does it mean, I don't understand it.

John,

He's writing a check to Verizon, but instead of an amount, he's putting a complicated math formula. Its a way to thumb one's nose at Verizon.

This is pretty funny to be honest! I'd find it funny to get a cheque like that.

"instead of an amount, he's putting a complicated math formula"

It's an amount: $1.002. One dollar and two tenths of a cent.

e^pi*i is equal to negative one, and the sum of 1/2^n over infinity is two. So 0.002 +(-1) + 2 = 1.002.
