As our regular readers know, I’m not in the states these days to experience the hiking of prices. Let me tell you, I’m feeling it more than ever as we plan our next visit together, in Oregon this July.
First off, flights were over double of what we had been used to paying for them.
Now I’m would love to find a good deal on a car rental and just about now a typically ridiculous price might actually look good.
I was searching a week ago or so and finally gave up in heart break as it was killing me to consider paying so much. Now I’ve convinced myself to give it another go and have been dejected by similarly astronomical prices.
Here’s what I’ve found so far:
Avis – $779
Budget – $480
National – $557
I’ve made several attempts at priceline and have been laughed at. Just a year ago I was used to getting rental cars for about $12 a day. Oh how I miss those days! I even tried for a convertible at the same price as budget was offering for a standard car, but was shot down as well.
I can picture the day already, telling junior about how my first tank of gas was for 89 cents. My dad gave me the same rap when I bought my first tank. His first tank was 35 cents!
I’m still having a hard time sucking it up to pay more for a car rental than I’m used to paying to fly across the country. It appears we’ll have to adjust to this inflation somehow.
For now I’ve reserved the car with Budget, and didn’t need to put in a credit car to do so. I’d still like to check out Alamo, who I’ve often found to have the best rates in the past, and Dollar. It’s past my best though, so I’ll continue my search again tomorrow.
Wish me luck!
Miel
