Some of our readers wonder about how we got started with blogging and what our motivations are.
DINKs Finance Blog was created in the spring of 2006, just before we got married. We had already gone through the initial steps and integrated our finances, flipped a real estate venture, paid off credit card debt, saved for our own place, saved for our wedding and honeymoon, and established a prenuptial agreement. We figured that with as much as we had sorted out as a couple financially, these lessons and experiences might be valuable to other couples.
James had been around on other personal finance blogs and found them to be integrating, while Miel had actually never been on a blog before. We started at midnight and the adventure has been going on ever since.
We have enjoyed blogging a great deal and find that it gives us an extra project and now business venture to work on together. It also keeps us focused on our goals and honest about what our challenges are around money. We still make mistakes, but we hope others can learn from them.
Initially we didn’t get started for the money, but now we’ve built our blog into a respectable second stream of income. It takes a lot of work on our behalf, but we find it to be rewarding.
